Evening Walk on Taormina. Via Roma

When I reached the end of Via Pietro Rizzo, I turned onto Via Roma, which runs over a steep slope leading down to the sea.

The street runs around the complex of the Dominican monastery, founded in 1374, and now the San Domenico Palace Hotel is located on its territory. I told you more about this in a previous article.

The entire length of the street has no sidewalks, but only a rather narrow roadway. I don't know what it's like here in the afternoon, but I haven't seen a single car since six in the evening. On the left side there is a fence surrounded by greenery of the hotel territory, and on the right there is a cliff overgrown with wild forest. In some places, there are wonderful views among the trees.

Opposite the lower part of the hotel is a viewing platform where you can see the Bay of Giardini Naxos and Capo Schisò. There is a train station right below us.

Once there was a walking path leading to the station from here, I found out about it when I was studying the option of how to get from the station to the city. It turned out that in 2016 there was a landslide and the path, which was previously not too safe, became completely impassable. Therefore, the entrance to it was bricked up.

Looking in the other direction, I saw Cape Taormina (Capo Taormina) and the island of Scoglio della Croche.

Continuing my walk along Via Roma, I found a staircase leading up to the Old Town, Via Cannoni, 150 meters from the observation deck.

However, I continued walking along the cliff, admiring the amazing views.

After 300 meters, I saw another observation deck located near the Metropole Hotel.

Meanwhile, dusk deepened and the coast was lit up with lights. To the west, the sky was still bright and the plume of smoke from the side crater of Mount Etna was clearly visible.

At the end of the street is the Monte Tauro Hotel with a rooftop pool.
