Church of Santa Maria Immaculata, Giardini-Naxos

On Piazza San Giovanni Paolo II there is a church of the Catholic community of Giardini, which has an original appearance. It begins its history on May 1, 1963, when the Bishop of Messina, Carmelo Canzonieri, blessed the laying of the first stone. The opening took place on October 8, 1967, when the Archbishop of Messina Francesco Piazza San Giovanni Paolo Iifasola (Francesco Fasola) issued a bull on the opening of the parish of St. Mary Immaculate (Parrocchia di Santa Maria Immacolata). Father Eduardo Di Felice from the Capuchin Monastery was appointed the first pastor. He put a lot of effort into completing the construction and decoration of the church, then he was a parish priest for several decades. After his death, the Capuchin fathers Francesco Gullo and Teodoro Di Bella received the parish. After the closure of the Capuchin monastery in the early 2000s, the parish of Father Eugenio Tamà. The building is built in a modern style, has the shape of an octagon and is covered with a dome with a high spire, it dominates the urban silhouette. Inside there are valuable majolica bas-reliefs. The church can be visited daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
